Light Engine

Technology

Lightglass is edge-lit by proprietary, phosphor-enhanced Luxtech LED modules. These modules outperform the competition in terms of lifetime, color rendering, options for correlated color temperature, binning, efficacy, and effects on circadian entrainment. Each individual LED is analyzed for uniformity and consistency before being installed into the luminaire.

Tuning and Dimming

Lightglass has a broad color temperature range, with the ability to smoothly transition between them: 2700K, 3000K, 3500K, 4000K, 5000K, and 6000K. Our R&D department directed by Jianchuan Tan, Ph.D. invented a new circuit design in order to insure smooth, flicker-free transitions of color temperature and brightness for Lightglass. This vital technology is part of what helps Lightglass simulate nature, and bring the feeling of daylight into a space.

For offices, the International WELL Building Institute (IWBI) specifies there must be at least 240 Equivalent Melanopic Lux (EML) on the vertical plane between 9:00 AM and 1:00 PM. Lightglass at a distance of two meters, and a CCT of 3500K or higher at full brightness is compliant. [WELL v2, Feature 54, Part 1]

In living environments, IWBI specifies at most 50 EML on the vertical plane during the night. Lightglass can be dimmed to comply with this specification. [WELL v2, Feature 54, Part 2. & WELL v2, Feature P3, Part 1]

For breakrooms, IWBI specifies at least 250 EML. For learning areas, IWBI specifies at least 150 EML. Lightglass meets these specifications through dimming and tuning. [WELL v2, Feature 54, Part 3&4]

Optics

Lightglass is designed with three main optical components to create a uniformly luminous surface, the feeling of depth and spaciousness, and visual comfort. The first is a light panel which creates the light emitting surface. The next is a light guide, which directs the light out of the luminaire. The last is a diffuser, which softens the light and eliminates glare, creating an ambient and immersive lighting experience.
